I have recently done some research on my Bentley ancestors (from the Cleckheaton area) at York Library. Isaiah and Joseph Bentley were the brothers of my 4x Gt Grandfather, Jeremiah Bentley b. 1797 at Cleckheaton. They were implicated in a murder at Kirklees Park in 1827. The information I gathered is as follows; York Assizes Charge Sheet; December 6 1827 age 25No 36JAMES SCHOLES Late of Cleckheaton in the West riding, machine Maker. Age 26No 37ISAIAH BENTLEY Late of Hartshead Moor, in the West Riding, Weaver. Sentence; To be Severally Transported beyond the Seas for the term of seven years. Christopher John Newstead Deputy clerk of the assizes in the said county. The brothers showed a lot of tenacity by making their way back to there wives and families in Cleckheaton, though the sea voyage must have been extremely hazardous (and also quite expensive!) By coincidence, one of my Ramsden ancestors, John Sheard Ramsden, was "Head gardener" at Kirklees Park for Baronet Armytage, in the 1860s. I am also distantly related, through my Woodcock line, to Uriah Womersley.
