Hey Everyone, I have an opportunity to pick up a Ruger SR-556, The normal 16in version with the quad rail, for just barely over $1k. It looks barely used. Is this a good deal? Any other feedback about the SR-556?I know there’s other, newer, sleeker, and lighter piston ARs nowadays, but I remember lusting over the SR-556 in that full sized poster Ruger sent out. Didn’t know much about it then besides it looked cool, it was piston, and it had a longer hand guard than what most AR manufacturers were using in the 2010s. I know they are discontinued, but it could still be a plenty durable and fun rifle for however long it stays alive, It’s heavy and uses proprietary parts you can’t get. Idk if Ruger fixes these when something breaks or not, but at some point they’ll run out of parts for them too. If you really think you need an external piston (you don’t) I’d look at another model like a Caracal 816 or something., I'll go out for a run or something.
