This modified BMW motorcycle is the product of a build by former Barrington Motor Works owners Chris and Barbara Betjemann in which they sought to distill their experience with BMW motorcycles, and two-cam racing bikes in particular, into a 1950s-style “sports special” that emphasized performance and handling. Work commenced in 2022, was completed in 2024, and involved the installation of a modified 494cc opposed-twin from an R51/2 into a unnumbered R51/3-68 frame along with finishing the bike in a combination of Avus Black and Dover White. Equipment includes a four-speed transmission, an exposed driveshaft, half-width drum-brake hubs, 19″ wire-spoke wheels, a rebuilt fork, plunger shocks, a wasted spark ignition system, and dual Mikuni carburetors as well as a custom Lugauer-style fuel tank, a Pagusa saddle, an electronic tachometer, an LED taillight, a luggage rack, a hinged rear fender, and a chrome dual exhaust system with a balance pipe and fishtail mufflers. The Betjemann Spezial is now offered by the seller on behalf of its owner with build records and New Hampshire registration in the owner’s name that lists the bike as a 1950 BMW R51/2., Bring a Trailer Auctions is the best place to buy and sell vintage and classic vehicles - Porsche, BMW, Land Rover, and more., Bring a Trailer Auctions is the best place to buy and sell vintage and classic vehicles - Porsche, BMW, Land Rover, and more..
