It's important to keep your audience in mind, check in advance what everyone wants and get a sense of what everyone needs. I've been surprised over the years how many of my adult friends can't poop away from home and how that can ruin a trip for some lol some people have smaller gas tanks when it comes to walking around and exploring, some people get anxiety about eating out multiple times a day, some people (me) need to eat every 4 hours. Everyones got their own fuse, and how fast it's burning can be monitored so basically plan one return to base per day if possible. (and of course self reflection is important, if you find traveling is always too hectic and stressful do you really like to travel? It's ok not to like stuff), I tend to break it down by city/region and within that have sections for sights, shopping, restaurants, coffee/tea/cafes, cocktails/beer, etc. This year we've gone to Puerto Rico, Vietnam and Taiwan and are going to Oahu this summer.
