We recently purchased some Amish-built furniture from the Goshen, Indiana area. This quarter sawn white oak furniture was finished with Michael’s Cherry Stain which imparts an unbelievable depth, clarity and color to the wood. I have searched widely for any tips or formulation information without success. So, off I headed to the nearest Michaels to grab a reasonable variety of options of each of the favorites—including a Prismacolor sharpener that sharpens pencils with a shorter tip (higher angle) to sharpen each pencil with the same angle. I have found that the softer ‘leads’ of colored pencils last longer with a shorter tip., I know microcut basswood is used quite a bit for model/mockup building, and can be purchased in small amounts at most major craft stores (ie; Michaels, hobby lobby, AC moore, woodcraft etc). It's relatively cheap when buying small amounts too. Good luck! ~Malice, I use a light tack spray adhesive applied to the back of the paper only. Several brands are available: 3M Artists Demountable Adhesive, Sprayway makes one; and I think Elmer's., I have used shellac a fair bit. I prefer about a 1.5 lb cut. I apply by brush “oval mop style” I picked up a Michaels for less than $20. If using canned Zinser floor sealer, I often dilute with another 25%ish volume of alcohol. Paul Sellers has excellent YouTube videos on how to apply shellac. We have elected to use 30" deep counter tops on two of the walls to gain necessary storage space on the top while preserving working area.
