It also includes live audio feed from the airport’s control tower.Overall, it took more than 350 hours to complete the gingerbread airport, with design work beginning in September and construction beginning in November. The Willard’s executive pastry chef Jason Jimenez, pastry cook Magenta Livengood and engineer David Sanabria – with assistance by the hotel’s entire pastry team – led the design and construction.For the Willard, the display is part of an annual tribute to create an iconic landmark in and around D.C. out of gingerbread. In the case of the airport model, it was as of the 25 best gingerbread creations at its hotel members for this year.Reagan National Airport, situated along the Potomac River in Arlington just outside of D.C., opened on June 16, 1941.
