I may be the worst catholic to have ever gone to catholic school, served as an alter server or participate in any other church organization\function (I am even left handed which in church tradition is proof of satan at work. Note the "backwards" slash which I use out of habbit since this is how I naturally write it.) ... HOWEVER an upside down cross IN THE CATHOLOIC TRADITION (as stated before) is sybolic of St. Peter. The pope's chair represents the chair of Peter because Peter was one of the first people to bring the news of Jesus' saving love to the masses in his travels. Some believe St. Peter (in this way) to have been the very first pope and that is why the upside down cross appears on the pope's chair. St. Peter was crucified upside down UPON HIS OWN REQUEST because he did not feel worthy to die as Christ did. He opted for the additional agany of all his blood rushing and pooling in his head because he felt that we deserved it and that as soon as Jesus was crucified right-side-up that made every other human unworthy of this exact death. Chances are Peter died of swelling of the brain as opposed to asfixiation (world's worst speller too) as would someone being crucified right-side-up - including Jesus. This would involve a nasty head ach and death upon rupturing of the blood vessles in the brain (Pretty huh?) instead of passing out and never coming to again. , As a reuslt, the Church has used the upside down cross (no corpus, so not a crucifix) to designate Peter, not Christ . . . the Pope's chair has an upside down cross engraved in it as a symbol reminidng one of Peter's humility and death. Unlike an upside down crucifix, there is nothing satanic about an upside down cross. It is a very Christian , Can anyone tell me why the late Pope John Paul II carried a cross which bore a bent crucifix on it? We use one in our church as well and I was wondering why the departure from the traditional "straight" cross. I have read about the occult and know that they mock christianity by twisting and bending the things we catholics hold sacred..
