I feel like Rocket Mortgage preys upon the novice-ness of first time home buyers. We used a local lender who is essentially a one-person show and works in a one room office. They’re amazing, for us a great rate, answered the phone at all times day/night/weekends, and worked crazy fast — but I would’ve NEVER found him via Google., I helped my mom apply for a refi on rocket mortgage. Now this is my first time doing this and at first I was happy my mom was able to get a 2.75 for a 15 year. But looking at the loan, it shows that 2.5% of discount points were added. Does that mean the original interest rate was 5.25%? It’s costing nearly $7800 in fees😅 I need some advice., As a first time home buyer and a first generation home buyer, I was absolutely lost when it came to the purchase of my first home. Better still, what other mortgage companies would recommend especially for new investors?, I called Rocket Mortgage yesterday and was offered 6.99% on a 30 year mortgage. 520k purchase price, 5% down, $64/m pmi. I’m wondering for those of you who’ve done this before, does it make sense to shop this rate around, or can I assume this is a commodity priced product?, While I'd love to save on mortgage interest, I'm wondering what the catch or motivation is for Rocket Mortgage. Is this a loyalty program to prevent me from refinancing with a competitor? It doesn't feel scammy, but why would they bother with this refi so soon after closing on the first mortgage?.
