Please read the information carefully to avoid unnecessary queries!Dear visitors and guests, we would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the fact that the Salt Mine in Hallstatt is only open until 31st of August 2025 this year. From 1st of September 2025 extensive construction work will begin on the "Salzberg site". These will last until June 2026. Access to the Skywalk via Hallstatt is also affected by the closure and the cable car to the Salzberg is also out of service during the reconstruction work.Important information for hikers around the Salzberg in HallstattDear nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, please note that there will be road closures and diversions in the run-up to and during the reconstruction work on the new Salzberg cable car in Hallstatt. The following information applies, for example, to hikes on the Plassen, to the Steingrabenschneid or to the Dammwiese.For hikers, there are the following trail variants in the period between spring 2025 and early summer 2026: Either via the Hallstatt Echerntal with an additional walking time of about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the walking speed. Or via a signposted detour from Hallstatter Salzberg Straße, further along part of the "Salzkammergut Soleweg" and through the gorge called "Hölle" to the Salzberg. This signposted diversion has been set up in time and will be removed again after the reconstruction work. If you choose this option, you will reach the conventional hiking trail again near the Knappenhaus.Another note: the popular serpentine path to the Salzberg will remain closed until the end of the construction work. Construction work will begin on 1 September 2025 and will last until early summer 2026.
