Had a nephew who needed to do a "practice" sales demo so he came to our house and started in on his spiel. He asked me to get some of our knives and try to cut some sisal rope he had. Mine were kept sharp so it was no challenge to cut anything. His whole sales pitch was based on showing a customer how bad their own knives were compared to Cutco knives. Maybe I helped him out but he wasn't selling knives for long., My mother bought a set of Cutco knives and scissors in 1960; I remember the salesman cut a copper penny in half with the scissors and I was an amazed 9-year-old. Still got them today and have added to them over the years; they are well made and have a lifetime warranty., The CUTCO/KABAR knife is a co-branded "KABAR", made in the KABAR factory. It's basically a KABAR Nexgen with the Cutco special DD edge and the Cutco guarantee. Anyways, I like knives in general, but am not a knife snob. It's nice to see some rational comments on Cutco over here unlike some other knife forums! Enjoy your new hunting knife!.
The history of the Cutco Corporation is an interesting one. Alcas was founded in 1949 by Alcoa and Case Cutlery to manufacture knives. Alcoa purchased Case's share in the company in 1972, and Alcas management purchased the company from Alcoa in 1982. In 1985, the company acquired Vector Marketing Corporation. Blades, i think cutco uses 440b. based on my non scientific testing, and regular use, i consider 440b, 420hc, 8cr13, aus8, x50, 4116 krupp, and probably 440a as all similar enough that i would not be able to tell the difference in actual use; without side by side testing., the thing about Case is they are also Ka-Bar, and Cutcosame company, same plant, same quality control, same warranty, same customer service I have never had a problem with any of my newer Cases.
