Our case lead to the passage of a new law, 755 ILCS 5/2-6.2. In a nutshell, this law states that if you are criminally convicted of financial exploitation, abuse or neglect of an elderly person, you can not inherit anything from them even if that’s what their will says., Financial exploitation, abuse, or neglect of an elderly person or a person with a disability. (a) In this Section: "Abuse" means any offense described in Section 12-21 or subsection (b) of Section 12-4.4a of the Criminal Code of 1961 or the Criminal Code of 2012., Illinois Compiled Statutes Table of Contents.
