R264, no Bart was commentating for NBC in 1988. Bart did the Olympics, they picked up Daggett sometime in the next quad. MLR definitely did the commentary at the 1986, 1987 and 1988 U.S. Nationals and Olympics. ABC still had the rights to Olympic Trials, so Cathy Rigby did the commentary there. ABC brought Kathy Johnson Clarke in in 1990 after Rigby left (I think Rigby's last event was '90 Euros). I believe Connor switched over to ABC in 1989, and I assume somewhere around that time Daggett came in at NBC. I liked Elfi as a commentator, she was direct and new her stuff. A lot of gym fans didn't like her because she made some rather unkind comments about a Russian gymnast (she shouldn't be on the team or something along those lines) at some point. However, I really think that Elfi was more victim of her surroundings as Daggett was so over the top (which I'm sure he was encouraged to be by the higher ups) and both Al Trutwig and John Tesch the 'color' commentators came across like pervy idiots and turned every gymnast's story into some misogynist trope.by Anonymousreply 265June 15, 2025 8:59 PM, Mary Lou Retton arrested for DUI Guess her near-death experience a few years ago didn't make her a better person., Bela Karolyi is DEAD Bela Karolyi, the larger-than-life coach who led Nadia Comaneci and Mary Lou Retton to Olympic gold while revolutionizing the sport of gymnastics, only to see his legacy destroyed by allegations of abusive coaching, has died.
