The recall was initiated after it was discovered that hundreds of the loaves contained visible hazelnuts.The packaging of the product stated “May Contain Tree Nuts,†but did not include “Contains Hazelnuts.†The announcement said that after an investigation, it was revealed that there was an error in the change of packaging.For people who have a nut allergy or sensitivity to hazelnuts, consumption of the product could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.No reports of injury or illness have been made thus far, but Hartford Bakery, Inc. is aware of one customer who “experienced digestive discomfort†after consuming the recalled product.
