Actually, with discount airlines like Frontier, Allegiant, and Spirit, they do tend too drop prices significantly much closer to the date of the flight but which flight day/time and when they do it can be unreliable. We have booked the cheapest rates ($50 RT from NJ/PA to Orlando) as little as 1-2 weeks out. Frontier in particular typically has the best sales for flights that are within the following month to 6 weeks. But I've seen similar trends in Spirit not as sure about Allegiant. They don't consistently drop though you have to watch for the sales that can be just a 24 to 48 hour thing. Then they go right back up again. We will be flying from Upstate, NY in the Winter so poor weather conditions is a strong possibility. Both flights are direct and cost the same. Jet Blue Flys into MCO. Allegiant into Sanford. We plan to rent a car.
I am going to book Allegiant Air to Orlando for the first time (Sanford, actually) but notice they charge $12-$15 each way per person for seat selection. If you do not purchase this option you are assigned seats at check-in/podium before boarding. My question to those who have used this, Allegiant does have sales occasionally but the flights you want may or may not go on sale. If you are comfortable with the $149, book it. Allegiant has tiered pricing, x number of seats at a certain price, when they are sold the pricing moves up to the next tier (ie: $67 to $79 to $92 to $104 just examples, not actual prices)., With the Allegiant website, you have to get pretty far into it before you see those fees. With other airline's websites, the fees are clearer at an earlier stage in the booking process. However, I think the rule is now that you have 24 hours to cancel with no penalty for every airline., When we did that, we got a $100 "surprise" when we picked up our car in the form of taxes and fees that were not included when we rented our car directly the Allegiant. I would check out the full, final price with booking thru Allegiant vs. booking thru the rental car agencies that Sanford has onsite, along with checking a site like hotwire.com., Well, I posted this in the October thread since that is when I could be going (pending heat & health), but Allegiant Airlines now has a military discount called the Honors Program. Valid ID for retired, active, spouse, etc. needs to be verified in person at the airport. Discounts include three, Does anyone know when Allegiant realeases their next set of dates?
